Etymology
Likely from Old Occitan eissalot and its variants (e.g. exaloc), from Massalian Ancient Greek *ἐξαλώτης (*exalṓtēs), from ἔξαλος (éxalos, "out of the sea" → "wind from the southeast"). Traditionally thought to be a derivative of Arabic شَرْق (šarq, “east”).
