Does anyone know how to elongate or widen text in Microsoft Power Point? With pictures you can click on any of the re-sizing squares on the picture and do whatever you want. If you do that with the text box it only elongates or widens the text box and not the actual text. I tried to change the height but it only changes the text box size, even if you only highlight one letter of text.

Update I looked for the similar looking letters in clip art, inserted them individually, and was able to create what I was trying to do.

It seems that you want to stretch text beyond the normal height/width ratio of the font.

In a regular text element, PowerPoint will honor the height/width of a font and not distort it when the container is resized. To be honest, that would be disastrous in most situations.

If you want to stretch text, you can take a screen clipping of the original text and paste that as an image. Then you can mangle the image in whatever way you want.

This is how to do it:
1. Click the Insert tab
2. Insert a Text Box or WordArt
3. Type some text in the new text box
4. Hit Esc (just once!), or select the text box (click on the outline rectangle)
5. Click the Format tab
6. Click Text Effects
7. Click Transform
8. Under Warp, click the first abcde (it will show the hint: Square)

That's it, your done :) you can now stretch the text box horizontally / vertically.

When you make the text box bigger, also change the size of the text. There is no way in Power Point to manually widen the text.

Insert | Word Art. The options you get will be quite fancy, but pick one, type some text. Once you've added the word art, you can select the entire text box and modify the text fill, outline, effects and such, then move the purple diamond on the text box to remove any odd shapes the text has been forced into. Then stretch and mangle the result as you will.

I am using Powerpoint 2016 (the subscription one). I found that you can insert the text box, type and format your text, then right click and save the text box as an image/picture file. It saves the text with no background if you didn't have one in the box. Delete the box and insert the saved image. You can then pull the bottom or top edge of the box to stretch the text.

For those still looking for the answer, follow these steps:

  • In Power Point

    Insert word art

    Drawing Tools > format

    Text affects

    Transform

    Warp > first option named "square"

You are now able to stretch/elongate the font as much as you like!
