Why can't I choose my installed translation language "Hungarian" in the page translation dropdown list?

Is there a "secret" ini file or something I should edit for this to work?

UPDATE: if I remove all translation languages and keep just two, I still see the long dropdown list of languages. So this dropdown list and the installed languages are not in sync. Hey Mozilla, it's such a basic flaw.

Firefox does not allow translating from the current display language setting.

Firefox: Display language

If you want to translate a page from English to Hungarian, set the primary language to something other than English.

For example, above, I've added Français in about:preferences, Language. Now, if a selection in English is highlighted, voila!, it can be translated to other languages.

Official responses from Mozilla on submitting this as a bug (may apply to other languages too, not Hungarian only):

  • This isn't a bug, but is confusing because we only offer translating from Hungarian, not to Hungarian. So an enhancement here would be to make this more clear from the UI.

  • The UX is confusing when you download a language, but it doesn't allow for translating in both directions

  • Our current Hungarian model doesn't meet our quality bar, and we have plans to retrain it with a new bigger architecture. Our smaller models have not been able to handle translating into languages with heavy use of declensions, and we need a bigger and slower model to be able to handle them. So sometimes a model is good enough to ship, and sometimes it's not. We're working through our backlog though to release more models.
