In Windows 8 this switch was in PC settings near WiFi and mobile broadband switches. Now after updating to 8.1 Preview WiFi and mobile switches moved to the Network fly out panel (what is good, imho), but Bluetooth switch is not there for some reason. I've found separate Bluetooth section in PC settings -> PC & devices -> Bluetooth , but there are no actually switch to turn on/off the hardware, only to change visibility of the computer for other Bluetooth device.

Is there any place in Modern UI part of the Windows 8.1 where I could manage this setting (except for plain old classic Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connection -> "Disable Bluetooth Adapter")?

Well, it seems that luckily they have fixed this in RTM:

Another simple method is to right click on WiFi or internet icon and click "Open network and sharing center". On the left panel click on "Change adapter settings" then find and disable "Bluetooth network connection" it is off!

What you have to do is right click on the Bluetooth icon then click on show Bluetooth devices then the switch is displayed.

  • Go to the Desktop mode, open Libraries and go to Computer. Right-click on it, select Properties from the content menu and then click on Device Manager. You can also open Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound and then Device manager.
  • You will see the Bluetooth Radio Adapter is disabled, even the service is ON. Now right-click on it and enable the driver. When the icon appeares beside the clock, you are able to turn the Bluetooth on and off normally from Wireless setting.

I was having the same problem. It's easy to fix. Right click your bluetooth icon beside the clock, select Ënable bluetooth function". Now you should have the bluetooth tab on "PC and Devices". Windows also automatically finds and installs your bluetooth device, since i just did it and am writting this with a bluetooth keyboard ;) hope that solves it, cheers.
