Expresscards are small cards for laptops. They are the successor of PCMCIA and PCcard.

Expresscards are small cards for laptops. They come in two types: ExpressCard/34 (34 mm wide) and ExpressCard/54. In this they show their history as successor of and PCcard, both of which were 54 mm wide.

And expresscard slot basically consists of a PCI express lane and an USB connection. The first makes it possible to use this slot to connect external PCI-e cards.
