Adjust clutch between cylinder and nut

1. Hook and 800 g weight used to check the adjustment of the clutch holding the micrometer nut. The tooth of the hook engages in the depth of the gear teeth on the nut.

2. Torque is measured by hanging the weight on a gear tooth on the perimeter of the nut. If 800 g is not supported, the clutch is too lax. If the clutch supports a larger weight, the clutch is too tight.

3. The right-hand-threaded disk, visible in the end of the cylinder, compresses the Belleville washers against the micrometer nut. Rotating the disk clockwise increases compression of the washers and increases release torque of the clutch. The disk is turned using a face spanner with pins 3.3 mm or 1/8" diameter; or by levering on drills as illustrated.

4. Torque measurement and adjustment are repeated until the clutch just supports 800 g.
