Etymology
From Proto-Hellenic *kʷʰeťťalós, likely from Pre-Greek.[1] But compare *kʷoiwéō (“to make, produce, invent”), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷoywós, from *kʷey- (“pile, stow, to gather”). The variation of the initial consonant between Θ (Th) and Φ (Ph) in different dialects is the reason for reconstructing a labiovelar *kʷʰ.
