- A digit 1,000 in the decimal acrophonic numeral system that predated the gematria system. An abbreviation of χίλιοι (khílioi, “thousand”). Equivalent to the Roman numeral M.
Usage notes
The basic acrophonic units are Ι 1, 𐅃 5, Δ 10, Η 100, Χ 1000 and Μ 10,000. Χ is iterated for ΧΧ 2,000, ΧΧΧ 3,000 and ΧΧΧΧ 4,000, and combines with 𐅃 for 5,000.
