Etymology

Traditionally derived from *εὖθαρ (*eûthar), compare εὐθύς (euthús) ~ *εἰθύς (*eithús) ~ ἰθῠ́ς (ithŭ́s, “straight”), from Proto-Indo-European *Hyéwdʰ-r̥ from the root *Hyewdʰ-. Maybe directly cognate to Latin iubar (“dawning light”).

Beekes is skeptical, and leaves the origin open.^[1]
