Etymology

    From Proto-Hellenic *túpťō, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tewp- (to push, beat).[1] Cognates include Sanskrit तोपति (tópati, to hurt), Latin stupeō and Old Church Slavonic тъпати (tŭpati).
