Etymology
From Proto-Hellenic *kʰútra, neuter plural of Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰutrom, from *ǵʰew- (“to pour”), whence χέω (khéō, “to pour out”); the original meaning was perhaps a "container of liquids (poured things)".[1] Cognate with Sanskrit होत्र (hotrá).
