Etymology

Possibly reborrowing from Romanian pomană (“alms, charity”), which is from the same root as Ukrainian помина́ти (pomynáty, “to remember”). Compare Serbo-Croatian помана (“feast”) (attested among Serbo-Croatian minority speakers in Romania).
