Borrowed from Polish rynek. Several steps omitting from Proto-Germanic *hringaz (“ring”). Further from Proto-Indo-European *(s)krengʰ- (“ring, circle”) (akin to Proto-Indo-European *krongʰ-o-, whence Proto-Slavic *krǫgъ, whence Russian круг (krug)), from Proto-Indo-European *sker-. Doublet of ранг (rang) and ринг (ring).
