أذن الفأر

Arabic

Etymology

Literally “ear of the mouse”, calque of Ancient Greek μυοσωτίς (muosōtís, literally mouse-ear), probably via its calque Classical Syriac ܐܹܕܢܲܝ ܥܘ݂ܩܒܪ̈ܐ pl (ʾeḏnay ʿuqbǝrē, literally mouse-ear) which is also transmitted corruptly as an alleged **عَنْقَر (**ʕanqar), which should be corrected to عُقْبَر (ʕuqbar); pursuant to which this Arabic is also often posited in the plural.
