Etymology 1
A suffixed form of Proto-Iranian *Hácru, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éḱru (“tear”). It may have been borrowed from Parthian 𐫀𐫢𐫐 (ʾšk /ašk/) or some other Iranian language. Doublet of ارس (ars), which was inherited and lacks the suffix. Compare Khotanese [script needed] (āṣka-), Wakhi yašk.
