Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *eŋse (back of neck); cognate with Azerbaijani ənsə, Bashkir иңһә (iñhə), Kazakh еңсе (eñse), Kumyk енгсе (yeñse), Salar eñse, Southern Altai эҥзе (eŋze), Turkmen ýeňse and Uzbek ensa.
