Etymology

Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (ägri), from Proto-Turkic *egri,[1] a development of *eg- (“to bend”). Cognate with Azerbaijani əyri, Gagauz iiri and Uyghur ئەگرى (egri).
