"New covenant," from عَهْد (ʕahd, “covenant”) and جَدِيد (jadīd, “new”), calque of Ancient Greek καινὴ διαθήκη (kainḕ diathḗkē) (Matt. 26:28, Mark 14:24, Luke 22:20).
