Etymology
From مُحِيط (muḥīṭ, “ocean”), مُتَجَمِّد (mutajammid, “frozen”), active participle of تَجَمَّدَ (tajammada, “to freeze, to be frozen”), and شَمَالِيّ (šamāliyy, “northern”); literally "the northern frozen ocean."
