خوخ
Arabic
Etymology
From Aramaic חוֹחַא (ḥōḥā, “thornbush”), likely originally referring to the Prunus spinosa variety, commonly known as blackthorn; cognates with Classical Syriac ܚܘܚܐ (ḥōḥā, “thornbush”), and Hebrew חוֹחַ (ḥōaḥ, “thornbush”), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic חָחָא / חָאחָא (ḥaḥḥā, “plum”), Classical Syriac ܚܲܚܵܐ (ḥaḥḥā, “plum”). Possibly an ancient Turkic borrowing, belonging to the family of Azerbaijani göyəm (“sloe”) (see there for more Turkic).
