Inherited from Proto-Turkic *siŋir (sinew, tendon); cognate with Azerbaijani sinir, Bashkir һеңер (heñer), Chuvash шӑнӑр (šănăr), Kazakh сіңір (sıñır), Kyrgyz сиңир (siŋir), Turkmen siňir, Uyghur سىڭىر (si'ngir) and Uzbek singir.
