Inherited from Old Hindi नन्हा (nanhā), नान्हा (nānhā), from Prakrit 𑀮𑀡𑁆𑀳 (laṇha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit श्लक्ष्ण (ślakṣṇá, soft, smooth).
