Inherited from Chagatai یخشی (yaxşi), from Proto-Common Turkic *yaxšï,[1] from Proto-Turkic *yakïš- (to suit, to fit), from *yak- (to come near (to each other)). Cognate with Azerbaijani yaxşı, Southern Altai јакшы (ǰakšï), Kyrgyz жакшы (jakşı), Kumyk яхшы (yaxşı), Shor чақшы (čak̂šï), Khakas чахсы (çaxsı).
