Alternative forms
- پوفیوز (pof(i)yuz)
- پوفیوس (pof(i)yus)
- پفیوس (pof(i)yus)
Etymology
Probably from پُف (pof, “huff”) + ِ (e, “of”) + یوز (yuz, “cheetah, hound”), expressing a state of inaction or lassitude in a metaphore to the act of huffing instead of hunting by a hunting animal. The similarity to the French pouffiasse (“slag, whore”) is coincidental.
