Ultimately derived from Phoenician 𐤂𐤌𐤋 (gml, literally “camel”); compare Arabic جِيم (jīm), Hebrew גִּימֶל (gímel) and Ancient Greek γάμμα (gámma). Doublet of ܓܘܼܡܠܵܐ (gumlā).
