Etymology

From a corruption of Apabhramsa अठतालिस (aṭhatālisa) in which the aspirated unvoiced stop (ṭha) was deaspirated and voiced as (ḍa). Further from Prakrit अट्ठतालीस (aṭṭhatālīsa), from Sanskrit अष्टाचत्वारिंशत् (aṣṭā́catvāriṃśat).[1]
