Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hānušákš (“one by one”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁onu-sékʷ-s, from *h₁énu (“after”) + *sekʷ- (“to follow”). Compare अनु (anu) and सच् (sac). Cognate with Avestan 𐬁𐬥𐬎𐬱𐬵𐬀𐬑𐬱 (ānušhaxš, “one after the other”).
