Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘁𑘯𑘭 (āḷasa), 𑘁𑘯𑘻𑘭 (āḷosa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀆𑀮𑀲𑁆𑀲 (ālassa), from Sanskrit आलस्य (ā́lasya). Cognate with Hindustani آلَس (ālas) / आलस (ālas) and Assamese এলাহ (elah).
