    Borrowed from Classical Persian اِمْتِحَان (imtihān), borrowed from Arabic اِمْتِحَان (imtiḥān), from اِمْتَحَنَ (imtaḥana). First attested in c. 1611 as Middle Hindi امتحان (amtḥan /⁠imtihān⁠/).[1]
