Borrowed from Classical Persian عَوْرَت (awrat, “woman, wife”), from Arabic عَوْرَة (ʕawra, “awrah, pudendum”). First attested in c. 1420 as Old Hindi औरत (aurata)/عَورَت ('vrt).
