Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀙𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝 (chuṭṭa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), without cluster simplification.[1] Compare छूटना (chūṭnā, “to be released”) and छूट (chūṭ, “liberty, freedom”). Cognate with Punjabi ਛੁੱਟ (chuṭṭa) / چُھٹّ (chuṭṭ), Gujarati છુટ્ટું (chuṭṭũ), Marathi सुटे (suṭe).
