Etymology
Possibly borrowed from Dravidian, whence Tamil திட்டு (tiṭṭu, “hill, salt bank”) and Kannada ದಡ (daḍa, “bank, shore”). The root तट् (taṭ, “to be raised”) is probably derived from this noun.
