Etymology

According to Mayrhofer, somehow related to Proto-Germanic *þau (in that case), from Proto-Indo-European *to- (that) + *-we (or) by early contraction.[1] Alternatively from Proto-Indo-Iranian *túH, from Proto-Indo-European *túh₂ (you).[2]
