Etymology
Etymology tree
Uncertain, but likely a sanskritization of Prakrit 𑀧𑀡𑁆𑀡𑀸 (paṇṇā) (with reversal of dialectal Prakrit ṇḍ > ṇṇ), which is itself from Sanskrit प्रज्ञा (prajñā́, “wisdom, intelligence, knowledge”).[1]
