Borrowed from Classical Persian فَنّ (fann) or directly from Arabic فَنّ (fann), from Classical Persian پَنْد (pand). Attested as Old Hindi फनी (phanī), फंनी (phaṃnī).[1] Cognate with Punjabi ਫ਼ਨ (fan).
