Borrowed from Classical Persian فرمان (farmān). Doublet of प्रमाण (pramāṇ). First attested in c. 1564 as Middle Hindi فَرْمان (frman). Compare Punjabi ਫ਼ਰਮਾਨ (farmān) / فَرمان (farmān), Gujarati ફરમાન (pharmān), Bengali ফরমান (phoroman), Marathi फर्मान (pharmān), Kannada ಫರ್ಮಾನು (pharmānu).
