   • c. 1500 BCE – 1000 BCE, Ṛgveda 2.33.14:

     परि॑ णो हे॒ती रु॒द्रस्य॑ वृज्याः॒ परि॑ त्वे॒षस्य॑ दुर्म॒तिर् म॒ही गा॑त् ।
     अव॑ स्थि॒रा म॒घव॑द्भ्यस् तनुष्व॒ मीढ्व॑स् तो॒काय॒ तन॑याय मृळ ॥

     pári ṇo hetī́ rudrásya vṛjyāḥ pári tveṣásya durmatír mahī́ gāt.
     áva sthirā́ maghávadbhyas tanuṣva mī́ḍhvas tokā́ya tánayāya mṛḷa.

     May Rudra's missile turn aside and spare us, may the great wrath of the impetuous One avoid us.
     O Bounteous God, turn thy strong bow from our princes, and be thou gracious to our seed and offspring.

     námo astu nī́lagrīvāya sahasrākṣā́ya mīḍhúṣe.
     átho yé asya sátvānoʼháṃ tébhyoʼkarannámaḥ.

     Homage to the blue-necked, to the Thousand-eyed one, to the bountiful.
     And to those that are his warriors I have paid my homage.
