Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hrā́ṣṭi, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrā́šti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃rḗǵti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃réǵeti (“to straighten; right”). Cognate with Latin regō (“to rule; to direct; to steer; to manage”).
Pronunciation
- (Vedic) IPA(key): /ɾɑ́ːʂ.ʈi/
- (Classical Sanskrit) IPA(key): /ɾɑːʂ.ʈi/
Verb
राष्टि • (rā́ṣṭi) third-singular indicative (class 2, type P, root राज्) (Vedic)
Conjugation
The only attestations are 3sg. indicative राष्टि (rāṣṭi) and 3sg. injunctive राट् (rāṭ), so it is strictly speaking unknown whether the weak stem was रज्- (raj-) or राज्- (rāj-).
