Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hlunčáti, from the Proto-Indo-European root *h₃runk- (“to dig out”), a nasal-infixed form of *h₃rewk- (“to dig out, till soil”). Cognate with Latin runcō (“to weed out”) and Ancient Greek ὀρύσσω (orússō, “to dig”).
