Etymology
Perhaps from the root स्कन्द् (skand) (in the sense of “rising”), in which case from Proto-Indo-Aryan *skandʰás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *skandʰás, ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *skendʰ- (“to jump”). Cognate to Latin scandō (I climb).
