Borrowed from Classical Persian هر (har), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *hárwah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sárwas (“whole, all, entire”), from Proto-Indo-European *solh₂-wó-s, from *solh₂- (“whole”) + *-wós. Doublet of সব (śob). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὅλος (hólos, “complete, whole”), Hindustani ہر / हर (har).
