ਅਰਮਾਨ
Punjabi
Etymology
Borrowed from Persian آرمان (ârmân, “desire, ideal”), which itself was likely borrowed from Sogdian r’’mn (“to move/raise”).[1] The first syllable is likely from Proto-Indo-European *h₁er-. The second syllable is likely either from Proto-Indo-European *meh₁nom, from *meh₁- (“to measure”) or from Proto-Indo-European *-mh₁nos.; Cognate with Tajik Ормон (Ormon, “male given name”).
