Inherited from Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀕𑀭𑀓𑁆𑀔 (aṃgarakkha, literally “protecting the body”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit अङ्ग (aṅga, “body, limb”) + रक्ष (rakṣa, “protecting”). Cognate with Bengali আংরাখা (aṅrakha), Marathi अंगरखा (aṅgarkhā), Odia ଅଙ୍ଗରଖା (aṅgarakhā), Sindhi अंगरखो (aṅgrakho).
