Inherited from Old Gujarati ऊभउं (ūbhaüṃ), from Prakrit 𑀉𑀩𑁆𑀪 (ubbha), from Sanskrit ऊर्ध्व (ūrdhvá), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *r̥Hdʰwás (“high, upright”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃r̥dʰ-wó-s (“high, upright”). Cognate with Konkani उभो (ubho), Marathi उभे (ubhe), Marwari ऊभौ (ūbhau).
