Cognate with Northern Thai ᨩᩮᩬᩥ᩵ᩋ, Isan เซื่อ, Lao ເຊື່ອ (sư̄a), ᦵᦋᦲᧈ (tsoe¹), Tai Dam ꪹꪋ꪿, Shan ၸိူဝ်ႈ (tsōe), Ahom 𑜋𑜥 (chū), Zhuang cwh (dialectal).

Compare Middle Chinese (MC zyaeH, “to borrow; to loan”) and (MC syae, “to buy and sell on credit”).
