โฮเต็ล • (hoo-dtel)

1. (colloquial) hotel.
   • 1928, Civil and Commercial Code of Thailand, section 674:
     • เจ้าสำนักโรงแรม หรือโฮเต็ล หรือสถานที่อื่นทำนองเช่นว่านั้น จะต้องรับผิดเพื่อความสูญหายหรือบุบสลายอย่างใด ๆ อันเกิดแก่ทรัพย์สินซึ่งคนเดินทางหรือแขกอาศัยหากได้พามา

       The keeper of an inn, hotel, or other such place is liable for any loss or damage to the property brought in by a traveller or guest.

The term was once in formal use to specifically refer to a western style hotel or similar business. But it is now colloquial.
