နိမ့်
Burmese
Etymology
According to STEDT, related to Proto-Sino-Tibetan *nup ~ nip (“to sink down, set, enter”), and thus related to Old Chinese 入 (OC *njub, “to enter”). Luce compares 攝 (OC *neːb, *ʔnjeb, “to take in”), from the same word family, as a relatively semantically closer comparandum.[1]
