From အ- (a.-, “nominal prefix”) + an element နှစ် (hnac, “kernel, core, heart”) (different from all senses listed on the page for နှစ် (hnac)), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s/k-nik (“heart, mind”), and cognate with Tibetan སྙིང (snying, “heart”), Old Chinese 仁 (OC *njin, “kindness”) (STEDT), and additionally, 身 (OC *qʰjin, “body, self”) (Hill (2019), p. 217).
