Etymology

Along with ἄφνω (áphnō, “suddenly”), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *abʰ-, shared with Sanskrit अह्नाय (ahnāya, “instantly, at once”). However, compare Proto-Germanic *abraz (“strong, extreme, severe”) and *ganhuz (“quick, fast”).
