Etymology

From ἐκπλήσσω (ekplḗssō, to drive out one's senses by a sudden shock) +‎ -σῐς (-sĭs, nominal suffix), from ἐκ (ek, out of) +‎ πλήσσω (plḗssō, to strike, to smite).[1]
